Job Summary:
To promote a love for reading and respect for books and the library by organizing interesting and exciting Library sessions. To liaise with English and Arabic language teachers to develop activities that will support the literacy programme at the school (story time, etc.)
To be responsible for the library, the book stock and the smooth operation of the computer system.
To suggest stock development and help in selecting books that are appropriate for the cultural environment and age range we cater for.
Key Responsibilities:
- To keep the library organized with a classification that correspond to the age range of the children.
- To make sure all the classes have weekly access to the library and children can borrow books on a regular basis.
- To make sure rules and procedures are set up for the library and known and respected by all students.
- To teach children basic library skills for instance to identify the fiction and non-fiction section.
- To ensure the smooth operation of Oracle library module and keep the tracking system up to date.
- To liaise with class teachers about books and book-related activities that will bring the library alive for children.
- To participate in planning meetings as required.
- To act in accordance with the school policy on Health and Safety policy.
- Support the aims and ethos of the school as reflected in the Mission Statement.
Skills
Qualification and Work Experience:
Minimum of Bachelors in Library and Information Systems or Master in Education.
Experience of working within a school environment. School library experience 1 year or above.
Good knowledge of Children’s literature in Islamic, English and Arabic.
Bilingual – Arabic and English with good communication skills in both.
